BBC Radio 5 Live presenters talk Waistcoats and "the Gareth Southgate effect" with Papa's Tailoring
One of Cheshire's best tailors, Papa's Tailoring of Nantwich, has caught the eye of top DJs at BBC Radio 5 Live. Following the Nation's renewed love of waistcoats as Gareth Southgate shows us how to wear them with style from the pitch side lines, BBC presenters Colin Paterson and Sam Walker were keen to test out the Summer's hottest new trend.
The England Manager's style has sent waistcoat sales souring by up to 35% according to the official suit supplier to the England team, Marks and Spencer. The popularity of the look, termed "the Southgate effect" is one that Papa's Tailoring founder Joanna Nelson can relate to. âWaistcoats are not just for weddings or to be worn with a three-piece suit. They can be worn as a stand alone garment too. They are such a versatile part of the wardrobe. An individual waistcoat that is cut well and fits well and has the proportions just right is key. They can really be used to show off personality and confidence."
It's not just the men that are taking hold of this must have wardrobe staple, Joanna can often be found wearing one of her selection of waistcoats - "Women are not just admiring the men in them, they are jumping on the trend too. Sales in ladies" waistcoats have doubled for us. I love a waistcoat, it's my trademark garment. They can simply make an outfit feel more 'together' and the physique appear more streamlined."
The trend has prompted well known BBC Radio 5 Live presenters Colin Paterson and Sam Walker to try out the soccer hero's style and Papa's Tailoring was happy to assist. Living up to their business motto "Live Well, Dress Well", the team gave the BBC radio presenters all their top tips for buying the right waistcoat and how to wear waistcoats well.
