Market Press Release – October 30, 2011 1:24 pm – With the exception of Apple there is one brand who can challenge the recent dominance of Samsung in the smartphone market and that brand is HTC. This month we see the launch of two premium smartphones from both manufacturers so we take a look at Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the HTC Sensation XL to see how they compare.
The HTC Sensation XL offers an incredibly powerful Scorpion processor which is clocked at a remarkable 1.5Ghz. This makes the chip one of the most powerful fitted on any device and more than a match for most smartphones on the market. Unfortunately the Galaxy Nexus is one device that can eclipse what the HTC device can offer. This phone uses a Cortex A9 processor which offers a slightly slower speed at 1.2 Ghz but the dual cores that it boasts ensure operation on this model is lightning fast. A result of this is that the phone is also better at handling multi tasking features. RAM memory on this phone is also higher at 1GB compared to the 768MB offered on the Sensation XL which means the device is better equipped to handle any future developments in phone applications. Both of these models run on the Google Android operating system but the Nexus is the first mobile handset to sport version 4.0 of the platform. This version offers a complete redesign of the in built applications together with a number of visual tweaks and a change in the base font used by the interface. The Sensation XL comes with the excellent 2.4 Gingerbread OS but this simply cannot compete with the superb new version.

Both of these models offer high quality cameras and as a result both are very evenly matched in this department. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus can capture photographs at 8 million pixel resolution from the primary camera and 1.3 million pixel resolution from the front facing secondary camera. The main facility benefits from an array of features that not only enhance the final result but also make capturing the moment a simple affair. An LED flash, autofocus, geo tagging and face detection are all present in the impressive arsenal boasted by this phone. The Sensation XL offers a similar standard of snap from both primary and secondary cameras but the phones video capture only offers 720P HD footage rather than the 1080P standard recorded on the Nexus.
Both of these new models are impressive introductions to the smartphone marketplace and there is no doubt that both will prove a huge success with the consumers. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus however manages to outperform the Sensation in the areas that we looked at and should prove more than a match for any modern handset.
