In this article, I will review an app called Temple Run which is currently the top free game in the AppStore.
Temple Run is an addictive adventure based game which is reminiscent of games like the popular Tomb Raider and Crash Bandicoot which were successful games on consoles like the Sony PlayStation. The game works by using the touchscreen to control the character through an adventure in a number of exotic locations. The controls are very simple, making it even more addictive. The character in the game is constantly running and you simply swipe the screen left or right to turn, and up or down to jump or slide in order avoid obstacles like fallen trees, flames and crevices. To make the game more challenging you are against the clock, and constantly being chased by an array of enemies like zombies and monsters. To earn points you have to collect coins by tilting the handset which makes use of the iPhone 4S’ built in accelerometer sensor.

Temple Run is a great example of the calibre of games that are available in the AppStore, and the technology found in the iPhone 4S makes it a great candidate to show off the gaming experience that can be achieved on the iPhone 4S. The retina display really makes the graphics stand out among other handsets, and the responsiveness of the touchscreen makes for an immersive gaming experience. The processor also plays a big part in the gaming experience when playing games like Temple Run. It is responsible for the responsiveness of the touchscreen as well as the graphics, so when there is a lot of action happening on the screen it still flows smoothly with no lag or buffering.
As an added bonus, Temple Run is available for free on the AppStore so all you need t download it is a valid Apple ID which, if you already own an iPhone, you should already have as it is required to activate the handset.

I have chosen to review Temple Run as it is currently the top free app in the AppStore games category. In fact to highlight how popular it is, over 1.5 million people ‘Like’ Temple Run on Facebook, and it has received over 80 thousands 5 star reviews in the AppStore. As an added bonus, if you own an Android smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy S2, it will be made available in the Android Market in February, so its popularity is likely to grow even more.
In conclusion, I have nothing bad to say about this game, especially as it is available for free. Although games like this are a far cry from console games, it is still a lot of fun, and ideal if you have some time to kill when out and about as you can simply take your iPhone 4S out of your pocket and be playing within seconds.
