Market Press Release – December 15, 2011 5:09 pm – The new Blackberry Curve 9380 is similar in several respects to the Torch 9860, largely because it has a full sized touchscreen which dominates the front of the handset and does away with the Qwerty keyboard which Blackberry devices have become known for.
The handset offers a number of decent features, and although it may not be up to the standard of some new higher end smartphones, the majority of users will surely be pleased with the experience it provides.
The handset measures up at 109x 60x 11.2mm, which is almost exactly the same as the other devices in the Curve range. The TFT capacitive touchscreen measures up at 3.2 inches, and there is the trademark optical trackpad which is found on a number of other RIM devices. Therefore navigation on the Blackberry 7.0 OS interface is simple and users can choose their preferred method to do this. There are also four touch sensitive controls at the base of the screen which offer shortcuts to various points of the interface.
512 MB of storage is provided as standard with the Blackberry Curve 9380 which is fine for getting started, but many users will decide to use the micro SD slot by installing a higher capacity memory card. A card of up to 32 GB can be housed in the SD slot, providing ample storage for music, videos, documents, photos and applications.

The standard 5 megapixel camera found on most new Blackberry handsets makes another appearance here, with its resolution of 2592x 1944 providing pleasing results in terms of its image quality. The camera comes equipped with autofocus, face detection, image stabilisation and LED flash among other features to ensure that users have the tools to achieve their desire results. The camera is not the most advanced out there, but it is functional and easy to use nonetheless, and is likely to tick all the boxes for most users.
Internet browsing can be carried out with the Blackberry Curve 9380 thanks to an HSDPA connection in areas with 3G coverage, as well as Wi-Fi, which offers the fastest connection. Another bonus of Wi-Fi is that users can browse the internet to their heart’s content without worrying about using their data allowance, should they have such restrictions on their tariff. All that’s required is the appropriate access details to a local wireless network.
The Blackberry Curve 9380 has a number of other features which one would expect from any new smartphone such as social networking integration, decent multimedia compatibility, GPS and email support.
