In 2011, Samsung have extended the Galaxy range with some impressive new models such as the Galaxy S2 that have resulted in sales figures for 2011 surpassing what was achieved in the previous year.
Thanks to the hugely popular Galaxy S device, Samsung managed to sell over 280 million units in 2010, a big improvement on the 235 million shifted in 2009. This year figures have increased again to over 300 million and the main contributor towards this figure is the superb Samsung Galaxy S2. This model has accounted for over 10 million of these sales and has become the biggest selling device ever released by the brand. Thanks to this excellent turnover Samsung is now the second biggest selling phone manufacturer with Nokia remaining first on the list. The Galaxy S2 offers a blend of the highest specification together with a modern design and this the main reason why this model has become the phone of choice for smartphone fans worldwide. At the time of release the model was the slimmest phone available and this struck a chord with consumers wanting an eye catching yet lightweight design. The dual core processors that are featured together with the high quality Super AMOLED mean that the phone offers performance that is superior to many of its rivals. As a result, the model has received various accolades over the past few months including the T3 Gadget award for phone of the year and another phone of the year award at the Mobile Choice Consumer Awards 2011.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is not the only model that has contributed towards the success that the company has enjoyed over the lat year. Numerous other models have been released with some of the newer devices such as the Galaxy Nexus actually surpassing what the Galaxy S2 can offer. This brand new model is due to hit stores at any time and features a larger 4.65 inch display that uses the same Super AMOLED technology. Not content with simply boosting the size of the screen, Samsung have also raised the resolution from 480 x 800 to 720 x 1280 pixels. This change means that the new Nexus can display a pixel density similar to what is offered on the famous Apple Retina Display. Another key change on the new phone is that it is the first model that runs on the Android 4.0 operating system rather than version 2.3 which is what the Galaxy S2 uses.
