Market Press Release – November 3, 2011 8:11 pm – The Samsung Galaxy Note is the latest instalment in the Galaxy series of smartphones from Samsung. Like the popular Galaxy S2, this handset packs a rather impressive spec list, in a somewhat larger device which almost verges on being classed as a tablet.

In this article I will provide an overview of its specifications so you can decide if this is the right smartphone for you.

The Samsung Galaxy Note, as mentioned, is a rather large device. This is thanks to its whopping 5.3 inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, which offers a resolution of 800x 1280. This results in great image quality, as the resolution is increased to match the large dimensions of the screen. The large size of the screen is likely to appeal to many types of user; from those who like to watch movies on their phone, to frequent web browsers, to business users who want a large screen to maximise workspace. All the added extras you would expect from any smartphone screen are included such as accelerometer and proximity sensors, as well as a gyroscope sensor. The screen is manufactured from Gorilla glass, which is toughened and able to withstand being dropped occasionally. Despite the dimensions of the handset being large to accommodate the screen, it is remarkably slim at just 9.7mm, so it is pocket friendly, and also lightweight at 178 grams.

Storage of files on the handset is no problem with the Samsung Galaxy Note; in fact it is one of its strengths. With either 16 or 32 GB models to choose from, it certainly has amole capacity as standard, but users can also take advantage of the integrated microSD slot. This comes with a pre-installed 2 GB memory card but this can be replaced with a card of up to 32 GB, so multimedia files, work files and others can be stored in the phone without fear of running out of space.

Super fast web browsing is another of the handset’s strengths. At 21 Mbps in 3G areas, this is in par with its stablemate, the Samsung Galaxy S2 in terms of data download speeds, and puts it ahead of competing smartphones such as the iPhone 4 (7.2 Mbps) and the HTC Sensation (14.4 Mbps). Of course, Wi-Fi connectivity is included along with a Wi-Fi hotspot feature. This allows users to provide a Wi-Fi connection to devices such as laptops and tablets by using the phones 3G connection.

The Samsung Galaxy Note also had a built in camera, and at 8 megapixels, it is a very capable camera phone. The resolution of this is 3264x 2448, meaning that the results are very pleasing, with high levels of detail and clarity. Autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, face & smile detection and image stabilisation are some of the included features. The majority of these can be set to automatic, or adjusted manually, so you can take great shots with ease, but also add your own twist to them. Video capture is in 1080p quality, the highest resolution of high definition, putting this handset at the top in this respect, joined only by a few other phones.

The latest version of Android for smartphones (Gingerbread) is the operating system of choice, although there will probably be an update available when new versions such as “Ice Cream Sandwich” are released. Alongside a super powerful 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, this makes the Samsung Galaxy Note one of the most versatile and certainly one of the most powerful smartphone available. Only the HTC Sensation XE beats its processing power with a 1.5 GHz dual-core chip, but in reality, the performance of the Samsung Galaxy Note is just as good, and hardly noticeable to the naked eye.
It is very hard to say anything negative about the Samsung Galaxy Note. Every aspect of its spec list is treated to the most advanced technology currently available. From its camera to its screen to its processor, there are very few handsets that outdo it in any respect. Although it may not prove to be as popular as the iPhone series, or even the Galaxy S2, those who opt for this versatile device will certainly not regret it.
