The versatile Nokia E7 has some of the most impressive location cased services currently available thanks to its GPS receiver and Ovi Maps software. In this article I will take a look at some of the features offered by Ovi Maps.
Voice Guided Navigation
An application which is generally very expensive when purchased as a standalone app from competitors’ application stores is voice guided navigation. This is actually included free of charge as part of the Ovi Maps package which is included as standard with the Nokia E7. Operating this is simple. All you have to do is open the application and enter the destination of your journey. By using the GPS receiver built in to the handset, the software then calculates a route from your current location. You will then be given voice guided (this feature can also be turned off if you wish) turn by turn directions, as the Nokia E7 keeps track of your progress and current location. This is especially handy for replacing a standalone SatNav unit in your car, or finding an address on foot.
Another nice feature about Ovi Maps is that it allows you to search for local points of interest (services, coffee shops, supermarkets, petrol stations etc) and it will display a list of the ones closest to your current location. You can then get directions to these, making it a great application to have if you travel a lot, or if you are in a new town or place with little knowledge of the local geography.

Social Networking Integration
One of the latest trends in the social networking world is the ability to “check-in” at your current location using services like Facebook. This allows you to broadcast where you are so your friends and family know your location. This feature is available on the Nokia E7, again thanks to its GPS capabilities. Of course, many other social networking facilities are included with the Nokia E7 allowing you to carry out a number of tasks thanks to dedicated apps for sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
There is of course a lot more to the Nokia E7 than its location based services and Ovi Maps. But the fact that it includes free voice guided navigation makes the Nokia E7 worthy of a closer look, especially for those who are always out and about.
Additional features which make the Nokia E7 stand out include its large 4 inch screen, slide out Qwerty keyboard, 8 megapixel digital camera and Symbian OS, making it a versatile all rounder with appeal to many different types of user.
