This year we have been introduced to the I'm Watch, a wrist watch that is designed to work with Android smartphones such a the Motorola Razr. We take a look at how this exciting new gadget works.
The I'm Watch is an accessory designed to run alongside a mobile phone rather than as a stand alone device. Bluetooth technology is incorporated so the watch can connect wirelessly to compatible handsets. The system will only work with Android phones that support internet tethering but luckily many of the newer devices available support this feature including the excellent Motorola Razr and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The I'm Watch enables you to carry out a number of smartphone functions without you needing to physically remove your handset from your pocket or bag. Text messages and e mails can be displayed on the small screen and the watch also includes a 4GB of internal storage capacity that allows it to store a large amount of data from your phone. There are some functions that the watch can perform that may not be the most practical. Taking a receiving calls for example works well enough but users may feel a little self conscious holding their wrist up to their face. Other features however are ideal for a device such as this and the social networking facilities are a great example. Browsing through your Twitter account or Facebook profile is easy although to view more detailed information such as photographs you will probably still want to use the larger screen that your mobile phone offers.

The I'm Watch includes version 1.6 of the Android operating system meaning that it has the ability to run its own software and applications. The manufacturers have also released a Software Developers Kit for the watch which means that we can expect a host of new applications that have been designed especially for this device to be available on the Android Marketplace soon. At present their are over 400 software developers working on a variety of new software which include applications that can monitor how far you walk throughout the day to software that enables you to control the lights in your home directly from the watch. The timing of this device is perfect as the current trend in the smartphone world is for large high quality screens to be incorporated in most models. The Motorola Razr offers a 4.3 inch display which is great for media viewing but inevitably makes the model larger than many devices. By using the I'm Watch with this model a number of everyday tasks can be performed without you needing to physically hold the large handset which makes it especially appealing to people who are constantly on the move and who may have their phone tucked away in a bag or coat pocket.
