Market Press Release – January 8, 2012 7:35 pm – Along with the HTC Titan, the new HTC Radar was released as a showcase to the new Windows Phone Mango 7.5 OS. The handset offers a number of appealing features, among them a 5 megapixel camera which I will introduce in this article.
Now, 5 megapixels may not sound like the highest, and of course there are numerous 8 megapixel smartphones out there and a few with even higher pixel counts. The camera on the HTC Radar is still capable of producing good results though. The camera’s resolution of 2560x 1920 ensures that the resulting photos are of very high quality. Autofocus is also included, which, as the name suggests automatically focuses the camera so that the optimum picture quality can be achieved. An LED flash is also on hand should you want to take a photo in low lighting conditions, and this can be set to manual or automatic.
The camera can also be used to capture 720p high definition video footage at a rate of 30 frames per second. Although many other smartphones can capture 1080p video, the results are just as impressive unless you are a technology enthusiast. There is a secondary camera located on the front of the handset which can be used for self portrait photos or video calls in VGA quality.

Aside from the camera, there are several other features which make the HTC Radar an appealing smartphone. As mentioned, it boasts the latest version of the Windows Phone OS from Microsoft. This has an attractive user interface which is based on tiles rather than icons as with iOS and Android phones. It allows users to quickly and easily locate their chosen application or hub.
The HTC Radar does not have a micro SD slot as most new smartphones do, but most users should not need one thanks to a generous 8 GB of onboard storage capacity. This is able to store thousands of music tracks along with numerous photos, videos, documents and apps downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace.
A 1 GHz processor is included to power various aspects of the hardware and software, and does a great job of ensuring that all aspects of the phone runs smoothly. The processor is responsible for the performance of things like the responsiveness of the touchscreen, and the speed at which web pages load.
Whilst there is nothing particularly groundbreaking about the HTC Radar, it is an attractive proposal for those seeking an alternative to the Apple, HTC and Samsung smartphones which seem to be dominating the smartphone market at the moment.
