Tariq Drabu is a leading dentist and specialist oral surgeon who was born and educated in Manchester in the United Kingdom. He is also one of the youngest dentists to ever graduate in the UK before working in some of the busiest dental hospitals in the UK and Saudi Arabia. Today he is the owner of the successful Langley Dental Practice and is also the Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and Treatment Services at NHS Heywood Middleton and Rochdale.
Tariq Drabu was speaking about an article published on 3 February 2017 on a dental website.
Tariq Drabu said “The Oral Health Foundation has pushed for the introduction of a gender neutral HPV vaccine to reduce the rise in oral cancer cases throughout the United Kingdom. I cannot emphasise enough how important this is as we have seen a three hundred percent increase in oral cancer cases over the past three decades in the United Kingdom alone.”
Tariq Drabu in Manchester went on to say “The human papiltomavirus infection has prove to increase the risk of oral cancer and it is one of the most sexually transmitted diseases here in the United Kingdom right now. The concern is that this HPV vaccine is currently only offered to girls at school in the aim to protect them against cervical cancer. Girls have been given this vaccine for almost ten years, but males are losing out as it isn't offered to them, even with the growing concern of oral cancer rates increasing by the year.”
Tariq Drabu closed in saying “Oral cancer has on average around seven thousand five hundred new cases each and every year. HPV, smoking and other lifestyle choices are all responsible for this terrible disease that if not caught early, could significantly reduce life expectancy in patients. There are around two thousand deaths each year as a result of oral cancer, which kills more people that testicular and cervical cancer combined, which is why I feel it is imperative that the government takes a closer look at the figures and starts offering a gender neutral vaccine which could save lives in the long run.”
