Music is a form of art, highly appreciated worldwide, one that enables us to express our deepest emotions and inner thoughts. Music makes everything possible and it comes as no surprise that it plays an important part in most countries and cultures. Individuals who love rock will be pleased to learn that they can find plenty of information online and they can listen to rock radio for as long as they please.
There are several rock music books that focus on the greatest hits but most of them treat musician like corporations, judging them by their profit and marketing strategy and not by the quality of their music. When it comes to the history of rock, we are not wrong to say that there are several national versions as well as individual histories. Some individuals grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, others to Moody Blues and so on. It is quite difficult to come up with the history of rock and not that of the charts or that of nationalities or individuals.
To begin with, the history of this musical genre must be impartial and balanced and rock radio should play a variety of songs that belong to different artists and time periods. The history of rock should also mention the existence of alternative rock and give it its hues. There are some important years that should not be forgotten: 1955, the year when Chuck Berry invented rock’n’roll as people know it, 1966, the year of a massive revolution led by Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, the Doors and others, 1976 the year of the so-called new wave, the late 1980s when musicians invented indie-pop, 1990’s when the Internet put its mark on music and 2001 when digital instruments became predominant in music.
The above mentioned periods were creative ages in the history of rock and they influenced it significantly. A brief definition of this musical genre is a combination of country music and rhythm and blues. However, this definition is no longer valid today and if we turn on rock radio we’ll listen to a genre that has evolved a lot through the years and now employs sampling techniques, electronic instruments, digital technology and ethnic sources. We are definitely not wrong to say that today’s rock music is a meeting of avantgarde, dance and pop music.
Individuals who want to listen to the beginnings of rock and see where it all started are advised to listen to rock radio where they will discover Chuck Berry and they will learn more about his contribution. It is needless to say that rock and roll was an instant success and although it was created by a black man, this love for music was more powerful than social prejudice and racial barriers. Next, rock and roll was adopted by white singers such as Elvis Presley whose style was gentler than that of black rockers. Nowadays you can listen to Elvis Presley at rock radio and not only, for his songs are everywhere and he left a musical legacy that will never be forgotten.
