Introduced in 1967 to allow private ownership of Gold, the South African Mint’s flagship series has been popular worldwide ever since. The design has remained entirely unchanged and focuses on two extremely important symbols to the South African people: Paul Kruger, the former president for whom the coin is named, and a springbok antelope, the national animal of South Africa.
In 2017, the mint introduced a Proof Silver Krugerrand to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series, delighting existing Krugerrand collectors and opening up the series to new buyers. The following year, the first-ever Brilliant Uncirculated Silver Krugerrand was released.
Each South African Gold Krugerrand contains .9167 fine Gold combined with a bit of copper for more durability. APMEX offers Gold Krugerrands in the common 1 oz size along with 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz sizes. All Silver Krugerrands contain 1 oz of .999 fine Silver.
Coin collectors and investors around the world love seeing what each year brings in the Precious Metals world, from domed Silver coins to .99999 fine Gold coins. But everyone always appreciates the classics – unchanged for good reason.
Gold and Silver Krugerrands are ideal for additions to or starts of any coin collection. Shop all South African Krugerrands now at APMEX.
