Market Press Release – January 2, 2012 7:25 pm – 2011 has proven to be a great year for smartphones. We have seen the first 3D smartphones hit the market, as well as the new iPhone 4S and a new bestseller from Samsung in the Galaxy S2. In this article I will focus in some of the mobile highlights of the last year.
iPhone 4S
Every summer, there is a buzz surrounding the latest iPhone to be released by gadget giant Apple. 2011 was no exception, with many anticipating the new iPhone 5. Instead though, we were treated with the iPhone 4S. Although it looks identical to the iPhone 4, it comes with some very impressive upgrades. For starters, there is Siri, the voice activated personal assistant. It also sports an upgraded 8 megapixel camera with the ability to capture 1080p video footage. It retains several features found on its predecessor; it has the same design aesthetic, as well as the ultra high resolution retina display. We can only guess what features we will see on the iPhone 5 which will no doubt be released in summer 2012.

Samsung Galaxy S2
The original Samsung Galaxy S was the best selling device for the manufacturer in 2010. In 2011, its successor the Galaxy S2 was released and to date has sold a whopping 30 million units. It seems to be the go-to device for those looking for an Android powered alternative to the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. It is easy to see why the Samsung Galaxy S2 has sold so many units. Its spec list speaks for itself, with an 8 megapixel camera, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, and high resolution touchscreen all providing a major part of the device’s appeal.
HTC Sensation
2011 has also been a fantastic year for HTC. The manufacturer’s Android and Windows Phone ranges have seen many new devices added. Among the more notable of its Android phones is the HTC Sensation. This handset boasts the latest version of Android, as well as a dual-core processor and high resolution touchscreen and 8 megapixel camera. The HTC Sense UI is also included, allowing users to customise many aspects of the phone’s interface, such as up to 7 homescreens which can be customised with various apps, widgets and colour schemes.
As you can see, 2011 was a great year for smartphones. In 2012 we can surely look forward to some equally impressive releases, with all major manufacturers being involved.
