Market Press Release – June 2, 2011 8:44 pm – Rumors have been floating around that Nokia's Symbian platform was about to get the boot by 2012. However, these rumors were quickly dispelled when the Finish smartphone manufacturer officially announced that it was to continue to support the platform until 2016. As a result, the phone manufacturer launched another smartphone running on the said platform. This is the E6.
To understand what this smartphone has to offer. Let us compare it to one of the most popular handsets in the Finnish smartphone giant's E series the E7.
When we look at both of the smartphones, you will notice that the 7 comes with a 4.0 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen. The 6 only comes with a 2.46 inch TFT capacitive touch screen. There is a reason why this touch screen is significantly smaller. The E7 comes with a physical slide out full QWERTY keyboard. The E6 comes with a physical QWERTY keyboard that can be plainly seen right below the screen. This gives users the ability to take advantage of a complete keyboard without having to slide it in or out.
If we take look within the smartphones, the two come with slightly different mobile processors. The Nokia E6 comes with a 600 MHz ARM 11 processor. The other smartphone comes with a 680 MHz ARM 11 processor. The E7 comes with a slightly more powerful processor. However, the difference will be noticed when their GPUs are compared. The later comes with a Broadcom BCM2727 GPU. The former comes with a 2D/3D Graphics HW Accelerator with OpenVG1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0. The E6 allows its users to enjoy 3D graphics.
When it comes to Symbian OS iterations, the Nokia E6 comes with the latest software the Symbian Anna OS. This is a more advanced version of the E7's Symbian 3 OS.
There are a number of new features this new OS iteration has to offer. One of these new features is an entirely new look. It comes with new icons that are sure to surprise even the most veteran user. It also comes with a portrait QWERTY virtual keyboard. However, since the smartphone comes with its own QWERTY keyboard, there is no use for this feature.
Its browser has also been enhanced. The new browser is much faster compared to browsers on its previous version. In addition to lightning-speed abilities, it is also more user-friendly. The new handset may fall short compared to other features offered by the E7. However, the Nokia E6 comes with the latest software and hardware the Finnish phone manufacturer has to offer.
