The first MediAngels Oration was unveiled in April 2011 at the famous MGM University of Health Sciences Auditorium at Navi Mumbai. The MediAngels Oration is a monthly forum which aims to bring a speaker of international significance to address the general public the physician community and students at tier 2, tier 3 global cities and towns (places where the need for health education is the maximum), and enlighten the stake holders in society on many diseases of public health importance. The MediAngels Oration will be part of MediAngels continuous endeavor to improve the base of health care knowledge amongst the medical community and society at large and help in the prevention, early detection and treatment of these diseases of public health interest. By informing the public of the same, the MediAngels Oration aims to improve knowledge and decrease morbidity and mortality from these diseases globally.
The first Oration was accredited by the Maharashtra Medical Council (the state governmental body for accrediting doctors) as a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program of substance and was awarded 1 CME point for attendance. Doctors in India now need 6 points every year for maintaining their medical registrations. The MediAngels Oration at MGM was attended by more than 150 doctors and students and General public in large numbers. The Special Guest and Speaker was Dr. P Raghuram a world renowned physician and one of the only Indian surgeons, super specialised in treating Breast Cancers . He is presently Director of the KIMS-USHALAKSHMI Center for Breast Diseases, Hyderabad and is part of the MediAngels Global Medical Expert Panel as a Consultant Breast Oncosurgeon.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of mortality in women worldwide. In India, the incidence of breast cancer is on the rise and is slowly assuming the proportions of a health care epidemic.
