THE emergence of Seyi Makinde as the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State has been described as a divine arrangement by God to wrestle the state from under-development and stagnation foisted on it.
his was the observation of the Director-General of Seyi Makinde Governorship Campaign Organisation, Kehinde Ayoola, in a chat with journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Ayoola, a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, explained that he came to such conclusion after the rounds of debates in which the various governorship candidates participated and the subsequent campaigns they had embarked upon across the state.
He disclosed that having listened to all the gubernatorial candidates of the major political parties, Makinde of the SDP, incumbent governor Abiola Ajimobi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the former governors Rashidi Ladoja and Adebayo Alao-Akala of Accord and Labour Party (LP) respectively, he was convinced that God purposely raised Makinde for a rescue mission.
According to him, “I don’t know how many of you have been following the campaigns of these governorship hopefuls, but, in my own assessment, I think God just want a halt to the rot in our system in the state by the coming onboard of Makinde.
“While the former governors and the incumbent have been running themselves out on what they did or failed to do in office, the other has been battling his past with his rag-tag party struggling for reconciliation among aggrieved members.
“Aside that, the former governors and the incumbent have only succeeded in exposing their inadequacies in governance and we are convinced that our people in the state are taking note,” he said.
Seyi Makinde was born in December 1967. Seyi Makinde is member of several national and international professional bodies such as Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE).
