Written by John Martin Mannion, the book follows the creation of a history course that includes activities for all age groups, with subjects ranging from the medieval times up to the fall of the Third Reich.
Moodle is a free source e-learning software platform. It has become very popular among educators around the world as a tool for creating online dynamic web sites for their students. Its open source license and modular design allows any developer to create additional modules and features.
History Teaching with Moodle 2 covers new and exciting ideas for the delivery of History content making use of tried-and-trusted methods of teaching the subject. The book shows the reader how to set up a database of important figures in History, add an RSS feed to their home page to display daily 'On this day in history' posts and set up quizzes to reinforce understanding or for tests. One can also learn to design workshops that encourage students to work on a collaborative wiki page and perform peer-to-peer assessment. Each chapter builds on the course and provides a different aspect of teaching history using Moodle.
With the help of this book, educators will be able to create a theme for their course to make it interesting. They will be able to bring the past to life using a range of tasks and activities that can integrate learning for some, enhance understanding for others, and enthuse all. Last but not least, the book will teach users to post videos of school trips, or historical documentaries and simplify grading and reporting to parents with the use of Moodle Gradebook.
With clear step-by-step instructions, lots of examples and screenshots, this book is designed for history teachers who would like to enhance their lessons using Moodle.
