Ken Schnitzer, owner of Luci\'s Healthy Marketplace, stated that the steady stream of customers that his store has served the previous year indicated the Americans\' new-day pursuit of a sound lifestyle through sound eating habits. “In 2011, we were happy to serve a solid base of regular diners and shoppers – plus their referrals and their referrals\' referrals. We also welcomed new customers checking the place out after reading or hearing the news about our mission of putting healthy and wholesome foods on the table, so to speak.”
Schnitzer explained that their customers were impressed at the dedication and hard work of Luci\'s Healthy Marketplace. “Despite the setbacks, we never relented in our campaign to spark public awareness of the benefits of eating the right foods to maintain the human body\'s salubrious conditions.”
As known to the locals, Luci\'s Healthy Marketplace was put in danger when a fire started in the restaurant next door in 2009. Consequently, Luci\'s was forced to close temporarily but would reopen after a few months. “There were many firefighters who put their lives at stake in order to save our store and neighbouring establishments,” Schnitzer said. “Most of them knew what creating and running the store meant to my family, as well as to the growing number of customers who were being given the healthier option that we offered. Their efforts should not be in vain.”
Schnitzer meant that Luci\'s Healthy Marketplace was a symbol of hope, particularly that it was built after his wife and store eponym, Luci, was gloriously declared a breast cancer survivor by her doctors. “When my wife, Luci, conquered The Big \'C\', she and our entire family became fully aware of what lifestyle and diet could do to our health. These two could spell the difference between life and death, literally and figuratively, and we realized that it\'s time we changed our eating habits into what is sound.”
“Moreover,” Schnitzer said, “it\'s time we shared with others all the cancer-prevention information that we knew. It\'s time we gave others the opportunity of living healthy so they would not have to go through the painful and difficult times that we suffered when cancer afflicted Luci and, as a result, our family. An ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure – and having healthy marketplaces like Luci\'s gives people a great sense of confidence in what they eat.”
Luci\'s Healthy Marketplace, which now has a gourmet coffee bar that features locally roasted organic coffee, holds cooking classes every Sunday.
Featured in the menu are bestsellers that include the Signature Hot Melts and Sammies, mouth-watering yet healthy meats and vegetables served on either multigrain baguettes or artisan light baguettes. The wide array of marketplace offerings are not what health-conscious shoppers will find in ordinary grocery stores and supermarkets.
