LG introduced the Optimus L series at Mobile World Congress in February, and here we are holding a smartphone belonging to the lineup, the Optimus L3 E405. Catering to the mid-level segment, this smartphone comes outfitted with support for dual-SIMs. Even though a single SIM version is also available in the market, we have decided to focus on the later as it makes more sense to buy a dual SIM handset. Both versions carry similar traits, with support for dual SIM drawing the border between them. Dual SIM phones are a hot property in Europe and Asia, but in the US market such handsets are not popular. This has resulted in low penetration of these products in the United States marketplace.
Sadly, even though dual-SIM is an attribute many of you are certain to be interested in, but you should remember that this handset does not arrive with active dual-SIM or even dual SIM. In its place, users are given a convenient key to instantly switch the active SIMs. In simple words, users can place two SIM cards beneath the smartphone’s hood, but can utilize only one at a time. This is certainly disappointing at a time when even some not-so-known manufacturers offer better options.
If this problem doesn’t bother you, let’s have a look at its other key features. This mid-range smartphone sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen producing an impressive resolution of 320x240 pixels resolution. In terms of performance, the 800 MHz MSM7225A CPU with Adreno 200 GPU leaves no room for complaints. But, the Android Gingerbread OS is disappointing. Also, there’s no mention of any update for the Ice Cream Sandwich.
Moving on, the 3-incher sports 1 GB of internal memory space, which is obviously not sufficient. But, as with any handset adding a micro SD card would increase the memory space. For clicking snaps, the 3.15 MP rear-viewing snapper is great. However, it’s always wise to remember that a point and shoot camera is always the best option. Connectivity attributes include Wi-Fi, Global Positioning System and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. Overall, the handset is a great product and could appeal to consumers searching for a viable option in the mid-range segment.
