Market Press Release – January 28, 2012 7:00 am – Kerala holds for beholder an excellent color scheme and is an exquisite art work of nature. For the immense bounties of nature, Kerala is called God’s own country.

Kerala is situated in the Malabar Coast of southwestern India. This coastal territory is nestled between Western Ghats and Arabian Sea.

Kerala tour packages include as its attractions pristine beaches, mist shrouded hill stations, placid backwaters, enchanting wildlife sanctuaries, emerald landscape and sophisticated art forms.

Kerala tourism packages will be considered incomplete if they do not offer an opportunity to savor backwater. Backwater is a unique Kerala phenomenon. Nowhere else will one find a similar occurrence. Backwater is a complex and elaborate network formed by lakes, rivers and manmade and natural canals and inlets. Backwaters had an economic importance as they formed a viable transportation option before bridges, ferries and roads came and also sustained the livelihood options of local folk like agriculture and fishing. Backwaters continue to play that important role by contributing millions to Kerala economy through tourism. It is the fascinating landscapes that backwaters make that attracts scores to this phenomenon.

Alleppey, Kochi, Kollam and Kumarakom are the central points of backwater tourism. Here you can hire wide variety of vessels from small canoes to luxurious houseboats to cruise through the waterways savoring the wonderful sights on the shores and the water flowers in the backwaters.

Houseboats are the latest superstars of backwater tourism. They are modeled on erstwhile “Kettuvallams”. Kettuvallams were used to transport rice and other household items through backwaters. They had thatched roofs over wooden hulls to offer protection from elements of nature. Although the form remains largely unchanged, Houseboats are two to three storied affairs with one to five bedrooms. Apart from sleeping space, dining space and a upper deck open on all sides are provided. From the upper deck the exquisite beauty of backwaters can be fully savored. Although Houseboats are motorized, they are run on a meandering pace making for a thorough enjoyment of backwaters. Houseboats are also adjoined by generators providing for air conditioning.

You can have a cruise through the canal network of Vembanad backwaters, if you are in Alleppey or Kumarakom. There are many interesting and inspiring vistas to be had. That could be in the form of panoramic paddy fields, coconut groves, King Fishers plunging into waters to catch fish etc. You can also see the very acts of human drama such as men on country boats engaged in fishing or herding ducks to new pastures, cargo being moved in Kettuvallams, school children being ferried across canals etc.

Kerala holiday packages include its pristine beaches for sure. Bekal beach has a fort located in it. The fort is said to be the largest and best preserved of Kerala. From the fort you can have the panoramic scenery of Arabian Sea. The beach rich with white sand sprawls on both sides of fort and has rocky hills as background and coconut trees on all sides. Kappad Beach has historical significance that Vasco de Gama, the first European to India landed here. It is a sandy beach that offers the glimpse of a cool sunset. Kovalam is the prominent of beaches. Its main attractions are seas safe for swimming and facilities to sun bath. The accommodation facilities on offer are also superlative.
