Market Press Release – February 20, 2012 9:06 pm – If you have an idea for a web or some other software based business – I mean a business in which the revenue is generated by the website / software – ask yourself “Am I absolutely sure there are enough people out there who will want to pay me to use my software?” Then ask yourself “Who exactly are the people who will want to pay to use my software?” and “How will I tell these people about my software?”. Also ask yourself “Can I build a viable business that can sustain itself and grow?”

We find that the startups who approach us to help them are never able to answer all these questions, but yet they are eager to hire us to develop their software. They are so focused on the idea (build it and they will come), they forget to ask these basic questions regarding their idea.

It’s understandable though. The media hype up companies like Google, Facebook, Groupon, etc., in such a way you get the feeling everyone but you is in on the action and getting rich. What they don’t tell you is that 85% of startups fail and the statistics are worse for technology startups.

For now, let us assume you have validated your idea, i.e., proved there’s a need in the market with customers waiting to buy, the question now would be what do you actually build?
