For those who are familiar with the iPhone 4, the iPhone 4S will be very familiar from an aesthetic standpoint. It has the same sophisticated and stylish design as the iPhone 4, measuring just 9.3 mm thick although it is 3 grams lighter at 137 grams. Under the surface though, there are some more significant changes in terms of both hardware and software.
The camera has been upgraded from 5 megapixels to 8, significantly improving the picture quality of the resulting images. As one of the main features that people consider when choosing a new smartphone, this is likely to prove a big selling point. Additionally, when it comes to video capture, the iPhone 4S also trumps its predecessor and indeed many competing smartphones. With 1080p high definition video capture, it offers improved video quality over the 720p offered by the iPhone 4.
A dual-core processor is now incorporated, what was expected by many, as this seems to be the norm for most new smartphones. The benefits of this are numerous. It allows for improved loading and operating times of applications, better on screen graphics, faster web browsing, and more efficient multitasking. Another benefit of the processor is the fact that, coupled with the retina display, it produced dual-core graphics, which Apple claims makes the graphics 7 times better than the previous iPhone.

Browsing the web has always been a forte of the iPhone series, and with the iPhone 4S, this is certainly the case. With download speeds of 14.4 Mbps via 3G coverage, it offers double the data download speeds of the iPhone 4. Also, Wi-Fi is supported, so users have a couple of options to make the most of the easy to use Safari web browser.
One of the most significant points of interest in the new iPhone is the new voice recognition application called Siri.
