Market Press Release – October 2, 2011 10:52 am – The new Nokia 701 handset is the first of three devices to be released by the firm sporting the latest version of the popular Symbian operating system. The new Symbian Belle platform offers many improvements over previous versions of the system and is one of the main attractions of this impressive new model.
For a long time now the Symbian platform has been behind the likes of Android and Apples iOS but this latest update sees the platform looking better than ever. The interface has undergone a makeover and it not only looks more appealing than ever but there is a host of new native applications that come pre installed on the device. Users are now offered a selection of up to six homescreens on which to place their various programmes and shortcuts. This is an improvement on the 3 screens offered on the previous version of the operating system. To help you differentiate between these screens each of them can be assigned their own wallpaper rather than sharing the one. You can also adjust the size of the widgets that are displayed so you can give your more frequently used features a bigger icon with five different sizes to choose from. A new pull down menu has been introduced to the top of the homescreen which presents you with all your waiting notifications from all different applications. The interface generally is much easy to use than ever before whilst looking more visually stunning. This excellent new interface certainly brings Symbian much closer to the high standards set by the Android OS.

One of the most impressive features on the new Nokia 701 is its very high quality screen. The model uses a 3.5 inch screen which incorporates the very latest IPS-LCD technology. This helps to make the screen one of the sharpest available and it is also one of the brightest thanks to its excellent brightness rating of 1000 nits. Despite failing to offer the depth that can be found on its AMOLED counterparts the screen manages a high standard of image thanks to a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels and a capacity to display over 16 million colours. Another great aspect of this screen is that it offers superb viewing angles of 160 degrees which is better than many phones currently available. Media features also stand out on this model with the 701 offering a 8 mega pixel still camera facility and 720P high definition video capture. Material can be stored on the phones 8GB of internal storage but a micro SD card can be added to enable expansion by up to a further 32GB.
