Market Press Release – February 4, 2012 6:32 am – Come and be a spectator of silk weaving magic created by silk farmers of Assam at Surajkund Craft Fair 2012. The 26th edition of Surajkund Craft Fair is scheduled to be held from 1st February 2012 to 15th February 2012 in Surajkund, Haryana. Organized by Department of Tourism, Government of India in collaboration with Haryana Tourism, the Surajkund Craft fair 2012 will have Assam as a theme state and Thailand as the partner country.
Around 300 Assamese dancers from Boro, Mising and Karbi will perform traditional dance forms Satriya, Jhumur and Sikhla in colorful ceremonial dresses along with demonstration of Eri and Muga sericulture by farmers from various hilly regions of Assam.
Besides Assamese theme, the festival will witness a colorful display of beautiful handicrafts with intricate motifs from different part of the world as well as participation of over 700 artists from India, SAARC countries and central Asian countries like Congo, Thailand, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Another fascinating aspect of this year’s Surajkund fest is the helicopter joyrides that will enable visitors to enjoy aerial view of this colorful fest. Commenting on the helicopter service introduced this year, Mr. Anand Mohan Sharma, Managing Director of Haryana Tourism Development Corporation said “We have tied up with Virat Aviation Pvt Ltd for the helicopter service.”
Besides helicopter joyrides, special concessions will be availed to senior citizens and disabled this year starting from half price tickets to providing golf carts and battery operated rickshaws for their use. Visitors can feast upon the variety of lip-smacking delicacies from India and SAARC countries at the food court.
Tight security arrangements have also been done this year with deployment of 1,000 police personnel’s and more than 100 special night vision CCTV cameras have been installed to avoid theft and chain snatching incidents. This year the facility of online ticket booking have also been made available to increase more and more visitors from all parts of the world.
