Market Press Release – September 24, 2011 8:47 am – Recently we have been taking a look at some of the features the public would like to see on the new iPhone 5. Some of these are very likely to debut on the handset whilst others seem little more than wishful thinking. Here we explore some more ideas and assess the likelihood of them actually making it on to the new model.
There was no question that the iPhone 4 was a fast phone thanks to its 1Ghz processor but it seems that the public wants to squeeze even more performance speed out of the new model and they would like to see a dual core processor fitted to achieve this. Although the inclusion of such a chip will not greatly affect the performance of single tasks it will improve multi tasking as each core can be dedicated to performing separate functions. The iPad 2 saw Apple fit their new A5 chipset which featured a 1Ghz dual core processor and it is highly likely that Apple will opt to fit this same setup in the new iPhone 5. The fact that a number of other manufacturers including HTC, Motorola and Samsung all use dual core technology will further encourage Apple to raise their specification on this new model. If the A5 chipset is included on this new phone then users will also benefit from improved graphics thanks to the PowerVR SGX543MP GPU that is featured. This is a step up from the graphics processing unit found on the iPhone 4 and will hugely benefit a number of areas including movie playback and gaming features.

A criticism of previous iPhones is the battery life that they offered and potential customers would love to see better usage times from the new iPhone 5. If the past is anything to go by we can expect this model to offer the best battery performance of any iPhone. Every time a new model has been released we have seen improvements and when the iPhone 4 was released it boasted a 40 per cent improvement over the iPhone 3GS. It is doubtful whether we will see the same kind of increase with the new model especially as a more powerful processor and a larger screen is likely but we can be sure that there will be an improvement of some kind.
Perhaps the biggest criticism of the iPhone 4 was the well documented antenna problems experienced by the handset. This was down to the antenna forming part of the metallic strip which surrounds the phone. There is no question that this will be changed on the new phone as it really did overshadow the phones launch. What is likely to happen is that the antenna will be moved into a more internal position and therefore unlikely to be affected by how the user holds their device. This should greatly reduce the number of dropped calls whilst improving the general call quality.
If all of the points mentioned above are put into practice on the iPhone 5 then we will be looking at a phone well equipped to rival the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S2. Expect to see the phone launched in October of this year.
