Dr. Gautam Sinha, who was the Director of Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), New Delhi, has taken over as Director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kashipur. He joined the institute on May 12.
Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, Dr. Sinha said that though building an institution from scratch is a challenging task, but his long experience in industry and top management institutions will help him establish IIM Kashipur as one of the Top B-schools in India in next five years.
Dr Sinha is the first director of the year-old IIM which had been running without a director since its inception last year. He has over three decades of experience in industry and academia including 25 years in the steel and engineering industry. He has also co-authored a book called ‘A Guide for Researchers in Management and the Social Sciences’ with Dr. WGK Taylor and Dr. T Ghoshal in 2006. Dr. Sinha taught at IIT Kharagpur’s Vinod Gupta School of Management for about nine years.
IIM Kashipur is currently mentored by IIM Lucknow.
Though Dr. Sinha believes that the institution building is a long process and the brand image is build over the years, he feels that the institute will get advantage of being an IIM.
He said that his first challenge will be to place the first batch well so that they can make a difference. “I have strong relations in corporate India. Hopefully, we would be able to place our first batch well. I am sure that our single-minded focus towards imparting high quality of education will boost our brand image,” Dr. Sinha said.
