On February 5, 1869, miner John Deason discovered a large nugget around the roots of a tree only 3 centimeters below the surface near Moliagul, a goldfields town in Victoria, Australia. He and his partner, Richard Oates, waited until the sun went down and set about digging out what they would soon learn was the biggest alluvial Gold nugget ever found.

The nugget, known as the "Welcome Stranger," was taken to a bank in Dunolly where it had to be broken down to fit on the scales. The goldfields warden at the time reported 2,269 ounces of Gold had been obtained from the nugget, which did not include an estimated 47 ounces given away by Deason and Oates.

To celebrate this amazing find, The Perth Mint created a special edition Silver coin showcasing the iconic Welcome Stranger nugget. The obverse displays an intricate design of the nugget along with the inscription "Welcome Strange 1869" along with the current date and .9999 fine Silver content. The reverse features the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The Perth Mint is producing just 25,000 coins and APMEX carries the U.S. exclusive rights.

Welcome this exceptional Silver coin into any collection or Precious Metals holding to commemorate history. Pre-order now only at APMEX to be among the first to receive this 2019 1 oz Silver Welcome Strange Nugget.
