Market Press Release – January 4, 2012 4:30 pm – The Blackberry Torch 9860 offers a great alternative to those who like the brand, but prefer a full touchscreen to the Qwerty offerings found of previous Torch models, as well as other phones from the manufacturer like those in the Bold and Curve ranges.
In this article I will provide an overview of a couple of the key features of the Blackberry Torch 9860.
Screen
If you are familiar with the Torch 9800 or 9810 models, you will no doubt notice the lack of a slide out Qwerty keyboard on the 9860 model. This would suggest that this version is simply provided in order to offer an alternative to the existing models. But this does not mean that it does not lack in features. The screen of course, is much bigger on this version. at 3.7 inches, the TFT capacitive touchscreen dominates the front of the handset, giving a very different appearance than its predecessors. The screen has a resolution of 480x 800, which is on par with handsets like the HTC Desire HS and Samsung Galaxy S2. The touchscreen element is of course provided as a means of navigating the BB OS 7 interface, but there is also an optical trackpad provided as an alternative.

Camera
The camera on the Blackberry Torch 9860 is similar to that found on the other Torch models. At 5 megapixels, it is certainly capable of producing pleasing still images, which are enhanced further by autofocus, image stabilisation and face detection. If you wish to use the camera for shooting video footage, you can choose from settings of up to 720p high definition. The main disadvantage of this camera is that there is no flash, but unless you frequently use your phone to take photos, this shouldn’t prove to be too much of a problem.
Web Browsing
Like its previous Torch counterparts and other RIM devices, the Blackberry Torch 9860 is particularly suited to internet browsing. Thanks to fast download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps, as well as Wi-Fi connectivity, users browse the internet, stream YouTube videos and send emails with ease. The handset comes with an impressive default web browsing application, which has features such as multi-tabbed browsing and forward and back shortcuts.
Obviously there is a lot more to the Blackberry Torch 9860 than what I have outlined in this article, but as you can see it is similar in many respects to the previous Torch versions, with the main difference being the lack of a slide out keyboard. If you are a fan o Blackberry smartphones but you are not particularly won over by the Qwerty keyboards which frequent their handsets, the Blackberry Torch 9860 makes a good alternative.
