In this article, I will look at some of the apps which I recommend to anyone who has just got their first iPhone.
WhatsApp
This is a handy feature which allows you to send messages via a Wi-Fi or 3G connection your people in your phonebook, whether they have an iPhone, Blackberry, Ovi or Android handset. The format of this app is similar to the standard text message function, but the bonus of using WhatsApp is that messages (even MMS messages) are free. You simply pay a very small one-off fee to download the app, and you can then enjoy free messaging. This is particularly handy if you only have a small number of free text messages on your tariff. You can simply use your text message allowance, and then use WhatsApp for the rest of the month. This way you do not need to pay for another message for the duration of your contract. Another benefit of this is that because it uses 3G and Wi-Fi, a cellular data network is not required, meaning that you can even send free messages from abroad (although there may be charges for 3G connectivity).

Angry Birds
In case you have not heard about Angry Birds before, it has to be one of the most addictive games out there. It is a simple strategy game which requires users to launch the characters from a catapult in order to destroy targets. At the time of writing, it was recently reported that Angry Birds has received over half a billion downloads across all platforms. This game is ideal to show off the touchscreen of the iPhone 4, as well as its processor which provides sharp and smooth graphics.

Unless you have been living on another planet for the last couple of years, the chances are that you have your own FaceBook account. As the world’s biggest social networking site and the most visited website in the world, it is the new way that many people choose to stay connected. The FaceBook for iPhone app allows users to carry out most of the activities that they can on the website with a normal computer. You can post status updates, like and comment on your friends’ activity, and send and receive friend requests. The app is easy to use and makes it convenient to stay connected wherever you are.
