Market Press Release – January 12, 2012 12:47 pm – Every year we see mobile phone technology take a big step forward and we are beginning to see what 2012 has in store for us. The first manufacturer to announce a major release is Sony who expect to see their new Xperia S model launched within the next month. We take a look at what we can expect from this exciting new model.
To date we have never seen a Sony mobile handset that features a dual core processor and this does not look likely to change any time soon. Rather than focus on incorporating dual cores into the Sony Xperia S the developers have instead focused on a single core chip that packs an awesome amount of power. This new model features a 1.5Ghz processor that is powerful enough to ensure that the day to day operation of the phone moves along at a great pace. There is ample speed to handle high definition movies and the most demanding of games so the absence of dual cores is not much of a concern. Although the model is not set to be shipped with the ICS version of the Android operating system it is anticipated that there will be an update made available meaning that the phone will benefit from all of the superb new features that this operating system has to offer.

One area where the new Sony Xperia S is well equipped is in the multi media department. Sony devices have always been known for their excellent camera facilities and this model looks to be the most impressive they have ever released. The device incorporates a high quality digital still camera capable of capturing images at a resolution of 12 million pixels. This massive resolution eclipses the 5 mega pixel resolution offered by the Android flagship device the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and is 4 million pixels higher than what can be found on the impressive iPhone 4S. Sony have always used high quality optics on their cameras so expect more of the same from this new model. In terms of video capture the unit can record 1080P HD quality which is in line with other leading smartphones but the secondary front facing camera is what really impresses us in this area. Usually manufacturers are content with enabling this second camera to capture low quality VGA footage but Sony have equipped it with 720P HD resolution meaning that results are superb regardless of which lens the footage is recorded on.
The new Sony Xperia S looks like being one of the key players in the 2012 smartphone market. The excellent multi media facilities are matched by the powerful 1.5Ghz processor that ensures that all tasks are performed at a very fast speed.
