Market Press Release – November 12, 2011 11:54 am – The Samsung Galaxy S2 has proven a success with the public over the past 8 months with record breaking sales figures which can be linked with its modern looks and very high specification. Here we compare the model with another handset that has been a huge success, the Blackberry Curve 9300.

These two handsets are very much like chalk and cheese in terms of their design. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is every inch the modern smartphone with its large 4.3 inch display and its slim 8.5mm profile. The shape of the device is very angular and lacks the curves sported by many other modern phones. This lack of curves actually makes the phone stand out from its competitors and gives the model an unusual and very futuristic look. The Curve 9300 focuses more on practicality rather than styling. The fact that a full Qwerty keypad is incorporated on the fascia of the phone means that the screen is much smaller at 2.46 inches. With regards to the keypad the keys are well spaced out and very responsive. The S2 offers two kinds of virtual keyboards with the portrait version proving ideal for composing quick text messages. The landscape variety is a full Qwerty version that may prove better when it comes to compiling more lengthy texts and e mails. The Blackberry is the more lightweight of the two models at just 104 grammes while the Samsung is not much heavier at an impressive 116 grammes.

Connecting to the internet whilst on the move should not pose a problem for either of these phones as both of them offer superb connectivity options. WiFi facilities are present on both models giving users the fastest possible data transfer speeds. All three recognised speeds of the system are supported and the models will automatically connect to preferred WiFi networks when in range. Mobile internet is equally as impressive with 3G, GPRS and EDGE all supported. For local connectivity both devices sport Bluetooth and micro USB options although the Samsung Galaxy S2 offers the more advanced Bluetooth 3.0 rather than the 2.1 version used on the Blackberry. The Samsung also includes a new form of local data transfer called WiFi Direct. This platform enables the transfer of material to other devices connected to the same WiFi network. In terms of speed then the Samsung is the clear winner in this comparison. The phone incorporates a high speed 1.2Ghz dual core processor which performs at high speed even when multi tasking. The Curve 9300 uses a smaller 624Mhz processor. This means that single tasks are performed at a fairly quick pace but multitasking does have a noticeable effect on performance speeds.

It is easy to why these two models have been such a success with mobile consumers. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is without doubt the more impressive model but there are people who will opt for the Blackberry for its physical keypad and more lightweight design.
