Market Press Release – January 13, 2012 1:13 pm – CES is the worlds largest consumer electronics show where manufacturers take the opportunity display their new products to the public. Many mobile phone developers launch new models at this event and Sony have been one of the first to announce a new model named the Xperia S. We compare this exciting new device with another handset that has recently been unveiled, the impressive Nokia Lumia 900.
Both of these new models offer high quality displays but it is the Sony Xperia S that impresses us more in this department. The model makes use of a large 4.3 inch display which is quickly becoming the industry standard size for premium phones. This screen uses an LCD display panel with an LED backlight. This is a similar technology to what is used on the superb Apple iPhone 4S and the results are equally as impressive. The screen can show an incredibly high resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels which means that the device manages to offer a pixel density of 342 per inch. This makes the Xperia S one of the first phones to actually improve on what the Apple device can offer. Not only is the resolution very high but the model also uses the superb Bravia Picture Engine to enhance the appearance of everything that you view on the screen. The Lumia 900 uses the same size of screen but one that makes use of AMOLED technology. This type of screen does display an very bright image but the quality is not on the same level as what the Sony can offer as the resolution is a lower standard 480 x 800. This lower quality means that the pixel density drops to 217 per inch which puts the model in line with many other models but in a different league from many of the new premium models that offer over 300PPI.

Not only does the new Sony Xperia S outshine the Lumia 900 for display quality but it also proves superior for the camera facilities that it offers. The device boasts a still camera with a staggering resolution of 12 million pixels. This puts the Sony ahead of every other phone available in this area. The model makes use of the excellent Exmor-R sensor that not only helps to produce stunning photographs but also enables the device to capture images very quickly. The usual array of additional features are available on this model including auto focus and an LED flash. The Nokia Lumia 900 camera feature is very impressive when compared to the majority of handsets available but it cannot quite match the excellence of the Sony in this area. An 8 mega pixel resolution is enhanced by excellent Carl Zeiss optics that produce a superb final image. Just like the Nokia a huge choice of additional features are present which include a dual LED flash and geo tagging facilities. Both models can also record 1080P video footage but the Sony offers the advantage of being able to capture 720P HD footage on the secondary camera that the model features.
There is no doubt that both the Sony Xperia S and the Nokia Lumia 900 will be very popular in the coming months but the Sony proves the more impressive of the two thanks to a stunning display together with camera facilities that rise above anything that we have previously experienced on other models.
