Market Press Release – January 26, 2012 7:38 pm – HTC has recently released two new smartphones to showcase the new version of the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS. These are the HTC Radar and the HTC Titan. In this article I will take a look at some of their key features and to see how they differ.

Screen
As the name suggests, the HTC Titan is a large smartphone, thanks to its 4.7 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen. This has a resolution of 480x 800 which is not the highest, but more than acceptable given the screen’s large dimensions. The HTC Radar has the same resolution and touchscreen technology, but only measures 3.8 inches so is somewhat smaller. The resolution therefore makes the on screen content appear in slightly higher quality as there are more pixels per square inch.

Storage
The HTC Radar has 8 GB of internal storage as standard, which will suffice for most users as hundreds of music tracks, photos and videos as well as apps and documents can be stored within the handset. The HTC Titan has twice as much storage at 16 GB, so may prove the better choice if you keep your entire music collection on your phone. Unusually for new smartphones, neither has a microSD slot. Generally, these accept a card of up to 32 GB, so if storage is an important factor to you, the Titan would be the better choice.

Camera
The HTC Titan comes out in this respect also, sporting an 8 megapixel digital camera. The HTC Radar’s camera is 5 megapixels, so performance and results are by no means bad. Both camera come with autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging, and both can shoot video footage in 720p (HD).

Internet Browsing
This is an important part of smartphone use for many, and both the HTC Radar and Titan are well equipped to provide pleasing performance in this regard. Both offer Wi-Fi connectivity as standard, which provides optimum performance, although 3G coverage can also be used to connect to the net if no Wi-Fi networks are accessible. When using 3G, data download speeds of 14.4 megabytes per second can be achieved, and to put this into perspective this is the same as the iPhone 4S and HTC Sensation XE.

As you can see, the HTC Titan differs mainly because of its larger size and screen as well as its higher megapixel camera and more internal storage. The HTC Radar is slightly cheaper to make up for this, but both still provide pleasing performance thanks to the new Windows Phone Mango 7.5 OS and capable 1 GHz processor.

If you are interested in either of these handsets, they are both available now on UK networks, with several offering the handset for free on selected tariffs.
