Market Press Release – January 18, 2012 4:03 pm – The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is arguably the most advanced smartphone to come from Samsung, and that includes the wildly popular Galaxy S2. The key features of this handset range from a 5 megapixel camera with HD video capture, a touchscreen resolution which is higher than that of the iPhone 4S, and the latest version of the Android OS.
In this article I will take a closer look at these features, so you can decide if this is the right smartphone for you.
Camera As mentioned, the camera on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus operates at 5 megapixels (2592x 1936 resolution), and although this may sound low for a cutting edge new smartphone, it is worth mentioning that the quality of the results are not entirely dependent on the pixel count. This is proven further by the fact that despite only being 5 megapixels, the camera can still capture 1080p video footage (full HD). The fact that there are only 5 megapixels simply means that the battery life is improved drastically over phones with higher pixel cameras.

Screen The screen is arguably the crowning feature of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. This measures 4.65 inches, and boasts a pixel resolution which stands at a whopping 720x 1280 (316 pixels per inch). This makes it the ideal handset for multimedia use such as gaming, web browsing as well as viewing photos and watching videos. The resolution of the screen means that it is much higher than the well publicised “retina” display of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S from Apple, which previously held the title of the highest screen resolution of any smartphone. The Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen technology means that the handset has great brightness as well as less battery usage than an LCD screen which is found on many other smartphones.
Operating System The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the official showcase handset for the latest version of the Android operating system, called Ice Cream Sandwich, which is version 4 of the popular Google owned platform. This is the main rival in terms of numbers, to the iOS platform which powers Apple devices. Android is the OS of choice for many notable manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG among many others. It allows users to customise the handset to a high degree, and also download applications from the Android Market.
As well as the features outlined above, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus also boasts loads of internal storage (16 and 32 GB versions available), the fastest internet connection available on a 3G connection, and a powerful 1.2 GHz dual-core processor among its other key features.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is available now on several UK networks, most of which are currently offering the handset for free on selected tariffs.
