Being a premium smartphone it is only fair that we compare this phone with the model that has set the benchmark for top end handsets, the iPhone 4S. Earlier we took a look at the screen technology and the processing power on these two models so here we see how the phones measure up in other areas.
The HTC Sensation XL runs on version 2.3.4 of the popular Android operating system. This platform offers users a stable and fast platform that benefits from thousands of additional applications that can be downloaded. Where this model stands out from Android offerings from other brands is the incorporation of the superb HTC Sense user interface. This system works alongside Android and simplifies many of the operating systems features. Some of the benefits of this UI are visual with an array of widgets and overlays added to the phones series of homescreens. There are also some more functional benefits such as excellent social networking integration in the form of the Friendstream facility. The iPhone 4S offers users a brand new operating system to go with their new phone. This iOS5 platforms keeps the familiar homescreen layout that we love on the iPhone but adds over 200 improvements to ensure the user experience is smoother than ever. In addition to a new notifications centre and the excellent iMessage IM service there are plenty of tweaks that make using this phone a pleasure. These range from the ability to launch the camera directly from the lock screen to a new voice activated personal assistant that can perform a number of tasks without you physically touching the handset.

Both of these handsets offer superb multi media features and there really is very little to chose between the two phones in this area. The HTC Sensation XL offers an 8 mega pixel still camera which produces a high standard of image. A number of additional features benefit the camera including an autofocus and the ability to attach a geographical location to every picture. In the video camera department this model offers High Definition standard footage at a resolution of 720P. The iPhone 4S offers a still camera feature that boasts the same resolution as the HTC but images do tend to look clearer thanks to the higher quality of optics used on the Apple device. Video capture also offers a higher quality thanks to 1080P resolution which is the highest quality of filming that is currently available. Both of these models offer secondary front facing cameras with the HTC capable of shooting 1.3 mega pixel images whilst the iPhone offers a lower quality VGA resolution for shots taken using this method.
