£20 million in overpaid nursing care fees – that’s the massive sum recovered by law firm Hugh James for families all over Britain. Yet thousands of families are still paying huge fees for the care of their loved ones which should be covered by the NHS.
For the very ill, the NHS is responsible for and fully funds continuing healthcare. This normally applies to the elderly, those in nursing homes, and those requiring end-of-life care. Patients who need long-term hospital stays or full-time at-home care are also sometimes covered.
But under certain circumstances, such as when errors in the assessment process occur, it is possible for families to unnecessarily pay tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of pounds in nursing care fees.
