Market Press Release – January 7, 2012 6:27 pm – Thousands of families across the UK are wrongly paying nursing care fees, but help is at hand, thanks to the nursing care law specialists at leading Welsh law firm Hugh James.
£20 million in overpaid nursing care fees – that’s the massive sum recovered by law firm Hugh James for families all over Britain. Yet thousands of families are still paying huge fees for the care of their loved ones which should be covered by the NHS.
For the very ill, the NHS is responsible for and fully funds continuing healthcare. This normally applies to the elderly, those in nursing homes, and those requiring end-of-life care. Patients who need long-term hospital stays or full-time at-home care are also sometimes covered. But under certain circumstances, such as when errors in the assessment process occur, it is possible for families to unnecessarily pay tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of pounds in nursing care fees. Hugh James is the nation’s leading expert in this field, and helps families recover wrongly-paid fees, with a specialist Nursing Care Department that knows how to deal with even the most complex of cases.
Thousands of families affected The new total comes in the wake of the successful recovery of £117,000 for the family of the late Evangeline McConnell, who was forced to sell her home to pay nursing fees that should have been covered by the NHS. After a long and hard seven-year fight, the McConnell family – with the Hugh James team of specialists behind it – won reimbursement of the money owed just before Evangeline’s death last month.
“Thousands of people across England and Wales are being wrongly charged for nursing care and in many cases, they are forced to sell their family home to pay,” says Lisa Morgan, partner at Hugh James. “If the primary reason a person is in a care home is because of their health, all costs should be met for free by the NHS.” If your loved one is in a care home because of poor health, you could be wrongly paying for care. Talk to Hugh James today to find out if you could be eligible for reimbursement.
